We now have two main branches of the system – one is based on GNOME desktop, the other on LXDE. Both fit perfectly on their respective mediums, are available in amd64 and i386 versions and can be downloaded in form of CD/DVD or USB images.

It is based upon FreeBSD RC3 and includes a number of changes and bugfixes.

BugFixes:

• CUPS should now be working with most printers,
• LXDE USB image and CD image are ready to download and use,
• GDM now allows users to choose their language for the GNOME session. The log-in credentials for GNOME session are: ghostbsd password: ghostbsd (this is a temporary solution),
• fix: live session now has proper options to shutdown and reboot via the menu,
• fix: message about mounting problems during setup on GNOME no longer appears,
• used mkisofs instead of makefs to build images.

Known Issues:

• Brasero on amd64 architecture still closes itself on normal user when adding data,
• amd64 live session GDM does not show a proper message on boot. It works perfectly after installation,
• a number of glitches need fixing on LXDE.

As we are progressing through RC versions, we would like to thank all the users, who had shared their thoughts and reported bugs both, on Trac and forums. Their feedback allows our small team to continuously improve the quality and reliability of the system. Please continue testing the new releases for us an reporting your findings!

We want to make new releases of GhostBSD as easy to use, versatile and bug-free as possible. If you have downloaded the new version and noticed glitches, errors, or you simply feel something should be changed, please report your findings and ideas on Trac. This will allow us to improve the system and toolkit in future versions!

Notable changes include:

• added WiFi Network Manager for easier wireless connection configuration; additionally, the WiFi card is now being configured during live medium boot-up,
• added Florence virtual keyboard for future touch screen development,
• added e2fsprogs to support ext2, ext3 and ext4 filesystem.

GhostBSD lite (CD medium) will be a little late this time. We have decided to swap GNOME for LXDE desktop in that version.

Known Issues:

• Brasero on amd64 architecture still closes itself on normal user when adding data,
• shutdown button is not available on amd64 and i386 mediums,
• during the installation, GNOME will occasionally show “cannot mount volume file” error message. This does NOT interfere with the installation in any way.

Since this is a pre-release, please assist us by reporting (and/or fixing) bugs. Users are encouraged to discuss their findings on the GhostBSD Forums.

When providing feedback please indicate which installation media you are using.

To install GhostBSD, you have two options. The new option is by clicking on the GhostBSD Installer icon or Typing gbi on terminal for GUI installation. You can also type ginstall in terminal for the new text-based installer.

Ginstall is a great solution for those, who have problems with graphics mode (it either doesn’t work or has problems detecting keyboard and/or mouse – in case of the latter, please refer to this topic for help).

You will see GhostBSD lite(CD) and GhostBSD(DVD), both have the new installer. The difference is GhostBSD lite is a smaller version to fit on a CD. A script will be released soon, so that the rest of the apps and configuration can be added after the installation from the lite medium.

There is also a dedicated USB image available for those who prefer this medium or have no access to an optical drive.

To Install on USB from BSD:

About the last change:

Unfortunatly, we have lost all the info of the old one. We were facing security problems with pressbb. We had lost control over bots and spiders.

With phpbb we will have more security and more features to control the flow of information.

We have added a new section called Other language. That will be all the same features of the forum but in other languages. If you want your language there, help us to make it happen. We have also added The Lounge, that will be the a place to discuss subjects not related to GhostBSD.

We will continue to add more subjects for discussion there. You can help us to find new ones.
