A simple, elegant desktop BSD Operating System

Simple

Built on top of FreeBSD, GhostBSD provides a simple desktop-oriented operating system pre-configured with the carefully selected minimal commonly used set software required to start using it to its full potential.

Elegant

GhostBSD uses the GTK environment to provide a beautiful look and a comfortable experience on the modern BSD platform offering a natural and native Unix work environment.

It is BSD

GhostBSD is derived from FreeBSD, and its roots go back to the University of California Berkeley Unix Research. Historically it was referred to as "BSD Unix" or "Berkeley Unix." However, today it is simply called BSD for Berkeley Software Distribution.

Latest News

GhostBSD 3.0 RC4 is now available.

A fourth development release candidate for GhostBSD 3.0 is now available for testing. The last development release was to buggy due to some last minute change. I decide to release an other testing release it might contain some bugs and other problems, which have not been discovered during beta tests so we still only encourage you to run it only on non-critical systems.

Changes since RC2.
