GhostBSD 25.01-R14.2p1 Now Available

We are excited to roll out GhostBSD 25.01-R14.2p1, our first release under a new versioning scheme and a commitment to rock-solid stability. After discussing with our contributors, we’ve moved from FreeBSD STABLE to FreeBSD RELEASE, building this version on 14.2-RELEASE-p1, the first patched update of FreeBSD 14.2. This shift, paired with a transparent naming format, promises a smoother, more predictable GhostBSD experience.

What’s Coming for Future Releases of GhostBSD?

GhostBSD is evolving, and we have some exciting changes ahead! After discussions with contributors and careful evaluation, we are making a major shift in how we build and release GhostBSD. The goal is to provide a more stable, efficient, and predictable experience for our users.

Switching to FreeBSD RELEASE

Starting with the next release, GhostBSD will be built on FreeBSD RELEASE instead of STABLE. The upcoming version will be based on FreeBSD 14.2-RELEASEp1.

We’ve Transitioned to a New Forum Platform

The GhostBSD community forums have moved to a new home! After careful consideration, we’ve transitioned to Flarum, a modern and lightweight forum platform, to provide a better experience for our users. Here’s why we made the switch and what it means for you.

Why the Transition?

The decision to move away from our old forum platform, phpBB, wasn’t taken lightly. However, several challenges made it clear that a change was necessary:

GhostBSD 24.10.1 Is Now Available

We’re excited to announce the release of GhostBSD 24.10.1!

This release brings system updates from FreeBSD and better hardware compatibility with some old AMD Radeon and FirePro GPU. We resolved live session startup issues with Legacy BIOS and started to fix some issues with Update Station functionality. For a complete list of changes, check the changelog.

GhostBSD 24.07.3 Is Now Available

I am pleased to announce the release of GhostBSD 24.07.3!

This release fixes issues found in 24.07.1 and 24.07.2, bringing important enhancements, bug fixes, and new features. Key improvements include setting vital system and software packages, adding support to mark packages as vital, and including hgame in kld_list.

Notably, we resolved the legacy boot issue where the live session wouldn't start due to missing gzip in the BIOS /boot/loader. We’ve also ensured /etc/X11 is properly created during setup.
