GhostBSD 20.04 Now Available

I am happy to announce the availability of GhostBSD 20.04, but first thanks to all people that gave feedback and reported issues. We fixed a couple of problems that were found in 20.03. This release comes with kernel and OS updates and numerous software applications updates and many improvements like replacing gnome-mount and hald with FreeBSD devd and Vermaden automount which make auto mounting and unmounting of external device way more stable and supports more filesystems.

What has changed and got fixed since 20.03

  • Fixed ZFS forced 4k option on ZFS full disk installation
  • Added 4k to default when creating ZFS partition with the installer partition editor
  • Fixed pool cleanup when deleting ZFS partition with the installer partition editor
  • Replaced gnome-mount and hald with FreeBSD devd and Vermaden automount
  • Fixed update manager weird loop
  • Fixed duplicate software repository config
  • Updated installer slide
  • Improved auto-create partition
  • Added boot loader option to disable syscons for AMD/Radeon GPUs
  • Added boot loader option to disable boot mute
  • Changed NetworkMgr to set SYNCDHCP by default
  • Made Software Station progress bar more predominant
  • Changed config to configure X and boot directly to the desktop on the installation
  • Added ability to the installer to set hw.syscons.disable=1 if disable syscons is selected when booting livecd
  • Fixed ntpd service

To upgrade if not done already:

uname -U should output 1201513

sudo pkg update -f
sudo pkg upgrade -f

Note: If you do your packages upgrade with pkg or Update Station, you are up to date.

GhostBSD 20.03 Now Available

I am happy to announce the availability of GhostBSD 20.03. This new build comes with some minor system update and numerous software applications updates.

What has changed since 20.02

  • The default pkg configuration now points to the GhostBSD packages repository instead of FreeBSD.

  • Fixed Update Station to make sure it only runs pkg update alone.

  • Added code to make sure that the update icon appears appropriately.

  • Added wg in notnics of NetworkMgr to avoid adding wireguard as a nics.

To upgrade if not done already:

uname -U should output 1201512

sudo pkg update -f
sudo pkg upgrade

Note: If you do your packages upgrade with pkg or Update Station, you are up to date.

GhostBSD 20.02 Now Available

I am happy to announce the availability of GhostBSD 20.02. ZFS partition has been added to the installer custom partition editor, and it is now possible to install GhostBSD with ZFS on the same disk containing Windows, Linux, or Mac OSX partitions. The system has been updated to 1201512. The Update Station application has multiple improvements, and numerous software applications have been updated.

What has changed since 20.01

  • Added feature to force upgrade all packages on a system upgrade with Update station

  • Improved Update Station update progress

  • Improved Update Station the tray icon behaviour

  • Added powerd by default to improve laptop battery performance
